various soccer programs within the community. The club will encourage
good sportsmanship amongst players, coaches, officials, parents and fans.
History
It all began in 1991 when Fred Pieske put together a group of boys to
form the first Chelsea Travel soccer team. In the fall of 1992,
Fred coached a U16 boy's travel team and John Dohner and Jim Hicks formed
a U11 boy's team. In the summer of 1993, these coaches saw a need to
formalize an organization and began working up a constitution.
In the Spring of 1994, Paul Seelbach added a U12 girls travel team.
Patty Roberts became the Club's high school girl's coach. Dave Cooper became
the coach for the high school boy's team.
In the summer of 1994, the organization filed articles of incorporation.
The Chelsea Soccer Club became recognized as a corporation in the state of Michigan.
On August 3, 1994, a constitution was approved. Fred Pieske became the President,
John Dohner the treasurer and Jim Hicks the vice-president.
The first Chelsea High School varsity boy's team was created with all the
efforts of the Chelsea Soccer Club. Coached by Dave Cooper, this team made
it to the regional playoffs. In the spring of 1996, the first Chelsea High
School girl's varsity team was created, coached by Chris Orlandi.
The club continues to grow, having 17 teams in the fall of 2000 with
approximately 260 players.
In the spring of 1999 the CSC obtained 501.c.3-tax status from the IRS meaning
that the club can receive tax deductible contributions.
